30 seconds for quick stuff. 2-5 five minutes for the costume gesture. It's usually done in about 45 seconds, then I add things like buttons, wrinkles and details for the rest of the time. The life drawing is around 10 minutes.

i have a modest art book/sketchbook collection and i LOVE that this guy in the pirate costume is everywhere. he is like my waldo, i'm always trying to find him!

so its more of a get the gesture down for the quick ones.. and then fill in the details through imagination type of process?
well, the people are still there, so you can look at them for all the details.
oh i get it.. once you have the main thing down... you can fit the details in after the fact.. even if the angle has changed..
